On May 17, Professor Slim KHALBOUS, Rector of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), led a high-level delegation to visit Tongji University. Professor LI Xiangning, Vice President of Tongji University, met with the delegation, accompanied by representatives from the Foreign Affairs Office and the Sino-French Institute of Engineering and Management.
During the meeting, LI Xiangning reviewed the fruitful cooperation between the two sides over the past decade and expressed sincere gratitude for AUF’s long-standing support in fostering collaborations between Tongji University and higher education institutions as well as research organizations in French-speaking countries. He emphasized that as a leading comprehensive university in China, Tongji has always prioritized internationalization in its development strategy. He looked forward to deepening cooperation with AUF in areas such as faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and innovation and entrepreneurship education, jointly advancing talent cultivation and academic innovation in a multilingual and multicultural context.
Executive President Khalbous spoke highly of Tongji University’s significant role in higher education cooperation within the French-speaking world. He elaborated on AUF’s latest strategic initiatives, particularly underscoring AUF’s continued full support for Tongji’s Centre pour l’Employabilité Francophone (CEF) project. In 2021, the establishment of the Centre pour l’Employabilité Francophone made Tongji the only Chinese university among AUF’s eight such centers in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2022, Tongji’s Student Dragon and Lion Dance Association was selected to join AUF’s global student club network (Cercle des Leaders Étudiants Francophones, CLÉF) for its unique cultural appeal, further enriching international cultural exchanges on campus.
